Planning drawings in Hackney, £795 fixed
Hackney's validation checklist wants every drawing to state its paper size, the scale at that size, a scale bar to ten metres, key dimensions and a north point, with PDFs under 20MB and printable at A3. We draw and name the set that way, with pre-existing plans where work is already built.
Householder application fee, paid to your council at submission.
Plus the Planning Portal's own charge if the application goes through the Portal: up to £149 including VAT, depending on the application type, and some types have none (source).

What Hackney Council asks of a householder planning application
From the council's Planning Application Validation Checklist (documentation requirements and local requirements) (adopted current checklist, read 25 October 2026).
- Hackney asks every plan and drawing to show the paper size, key dimensions and a scale bar of at least 0 to 10 metres, and every electronic drawing to carry the scale at that print size (such as 1:50 or 1:100), a scale bar of one and ten metres, key dimensions and a north point. (source, checked 25 October 2026)
- Existing and proposed elevations, floor plans, roof plans, and site sections with finished floor and site levels are required at 1:50 or 1:100, and the same plans are required for listed building consent applications. (source, checked 25 October 2026)
- Pre-existing plans, elevations and sections are required where the application seeks to retain or alter development in breach of planning control, or where the works have already started or been carried out. (source, checked 25 October 2026)
- All files must be PDFs, each no more than 20MB, and all drawings must be scaled to print at A3 or smaller. Files should have descriptive, consistent names with version numbers or dates, and drawing names should carry their drawing numbers, for example Proposed Roof Plan - BK2024. (source, checked 25 October 2026)
- Refuse and recycling details are required for applications that propose additional units, a change of use, or changes that alter waste storage arrangements. (source, checked 25 October 2026)
What Hackney householder planning application drawings have to show
A Hackney drawing is built to print at A3 or smaller with its scale stated for that size, because the checklist asks for the paper size and the scale at that size on each sheet. Every sheet carries a scale bar running to ten metres, a north point and key dimensions, and the file name matches the drawing title and number, so Proposed Roof Plan and its number sit together in the list the officer sees.
If anything has already been built, we draw the pre-existing plans too, as the checklist requires for work carried out or in breach. For extra units or a change of use we add the refuse and recycling layout, and we keep each PDF well under the 20MB limit by splitting the set sheet by sheet.
